Deformation and Symmetry in the Inviscid SQG and the 3D Euler Equations

چکیده
The global regularity problem concerning the inviscid SQG and the 3D Euler equations remains outstandingly open. This paper presents several geometric observations on solutions of these equations. One observation stems from a relation between what we call Eulerian and Lagrangian deformations and reflects the alignment of the stretching directions of these deformations and the tangent direction of the level curves for the SQG equation. Various spatial symmetries in solutions to the 3D Euler equations are exploited. In addition, two observations on the curvature of the level curves of the SQG equation are also included.

Global Flows with Invariant Measures for the Inviscid Modified Sqg Equations
Abstract. We consider the family known as modified or generalized surface quasi-geostrophic equations (mSQG) consisting of the classical inviscid surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation together with a family of regularized active scalars given by introducing a smoothing operator of nonzero but possibly arbitrarily small degree. This family naturally interpolates between the 2D Euler equation ...
متن کاملInviscid Compressible Flow in Meridional Plane of an Axial Flow Compressor
In this paper it is attempted to investigate the behavior of an inviscid flow in the meridional plane of an axial flow compressor. For this purpose the 3-D unsteady Euler equations in cylindrical coordinate are averaged in tangential direction. Therefore, the equations are reduced to a 2-D system. By averaging the tangential component of momentum equation, a blade force will result. Axial and r...

متن کاملFinite time singularity for the modified SQG patch equation
It is well known that the incompressible Euler equations in two dimensions have globally regular solutions. The inviscid surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation has a Biot-Savart law which is one derivative less regular than in the Euler case, and the question of global regularity for its solutions is still open. We study here the patch dynamics in the half-plane for a family of active scalars...
متن کاملOn Finite Time Singularity and Global Regularity of an Axisymmetric Model for the 3D Euler Equations
We investigate the large time behavior of an axisymmetric model for the 3D Euler equations. In [22], Hou and Lei proposed a 3D model for the axisymmetric incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations with swirl. This model shares many properties of the 3D incompressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The main difference between the 3D model of Hou and Lei and the reformulated 3D Euler an...
